“For My thoughts are not your thought, neither are My ways you ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isa 55:8-9 (Amplified)
Necessity, they say, is the mother of invention. The truth of this statement is borne out by the fact that many things we now take for granted in our daily lives actually came about due to human curiosity, inventiveness and creative response to pressure. History has always positively reflected on those individual who on meeting challenges do not crack, but resolutely pursued their dreams, solved difficult problems, scaled obstacles and achieved significance. Progress have only come about when people have been prepared to break conventions and rewrite rules in their quest to advance mankind.
The people involved in the six stories that we will be considering particularly excelled in their ability to break human conventions. This simply proves that those highly held views that we are sometimes willing to die for actually mean nothing to the God in whose name we are trying to preserve the status quo. All of the people who forced their way to the top of God’s agenda characteristically exhibited a radical and deep disdain for human convention and particularly despised the repercussions of breaking such conventions through the enormous risk either to their persons or reputation or finances that they took. The most revealing thing about Jesus’ priority was His tacit approval of their actions, even when they broke statutory laws. These people flouted religious laws, the laws governing decorum and personal comportment, property laws, racial laws, social laws as well as noise nuisance laws, as they acted in faith in their bid to catch Jesus’ attention and Jesus not only approved of their unlawful actions, but also commended their actions of faith. His premise must have been that whatever is not of faith is sin, and since these people acted in faith, even if they have broken the law, they had not committed any sin and should thus be rewarded for their faith.
So, what was unique about these people that enabled them to break conventions and achieve their hearts’ desires? They were oblivious to what other people thought about them and were focused only on what Jesus thought about them. Through faith, they were able to key in into God’s way of thinking, which enabled them to see what can be as opposed to what presently obtains. The burning faith in their hearts enabled them to replace the tendency to be timid with the get up and go winning attitude that is the hallmark of spiritual champions. Consequently, no obstacle was too great to overcome as they believed God to make a way where there seemed to be none. They called things which are not as though they were and they became as they pursued their goals with all their might. One thing that we can learn from these people is that we should never consent to become prisoners to human conventions. In other words, when man-made conventions stand in our way to achieving our God-given goals, we should feel free to break them in our desire to please God. When natural obstacles are actively preventing us from making progress as ordained by God’s word, we are at liberty to command that mountain to move in Jesus name and it shall be so. It is time to rewrite the rules. Become a convention breaker today and God will bless you.
