“Do not [earnestly] remember the former things; neither consider the things of old, behold, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs forth; do you not perceive and know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”Isa 43:18-19 (Amplified)

Geography was arguable my best subject in school and I have since retained that love even in later life. One natural phenomenon that caught my attention then was the issue of river capture. You ask, what is that supposed to mean? Every river has a source or water shed from where it begins its flow, usually a hill or mountain and flows down a gradient. So, supposing two rivers, interestingly named Rivers Today and Tomorrow, take their source from the same mountain range, one flowing in one direction and the other the opposite direction. The major River Today, being the dominant of these two, appropriated most of the water and grew large as a result. People had settled along its banks for generations and expected life to continue as usual for ever.

However, unbeknown to them, a quirk of nature meant that something was happening that was not apparent except to the discerning observer. It seemed that River Today was uncharacteristically drying up and River Tomorrow, which was barely larger than a rivulet was inexplicably increasing in volume. The reason – a river capture was in process. Due to the nature of the soil, River Tomorrow had over time been slowly eroding the soil and undermining the ground over which River Today flowed. In time it has succeeded in diverting the water that would have gone to River Today and as a result is reaping the benefit and getting larger by the day. Hence, it was only a matter of time before River Today dried up and all those settlements that had grown up and benefitted from its largesse for years would also die along with it. Those who are wise among the current inhabitants of these doomed towns would acknowledge the new reality and start shifting base to the banks of River Tomorrow and position themselves to take advantage of that which God has ordained and which is beyond their control. The foolish ones would simply do nothing or forlornly hope that something would reverse the change and as a consequence die living by a dried-up river bed.

God is doing something new, which necessarily requires a new way of thinking, doing and being. As many as are determined to stay and operate within the confines of what He did in the past or is doing today will miss out of the greater things that He has in store for tomorrow. God’s move is subtle. So, don’t expect a big bang announcing His move. He is currently slowly eroding the foundations of the humanistic thinking that has pervaded the Church and undermined her ability to function as designed in this world and He shall surely prevail. God will succeed in taking His Church back and elevating her to her rightful place in the world. So, where are you encamped? Beside River Today or on the banks of the more promising River Tomorrow? Be wise! Listen to what the Spirit is saying and ensure that God’s move does not pass you by.

Prayer:
Father, your word says that he who has an ear let him hear. Today, I ask that you open my ears so that I can hear what your Spirit is saying and then help me to do whatever He says so that your blessings can become a reality in my life. Lord, I rebuke every demonic or character obstruction to hearing you and submit myself to your cleansing. Let your will be done in my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.
