“Behold, the virgin shall become pregnant and give birth to a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel – which, when translated, means, God with us.” Matt 1:23 (Amplified)

The Atacama Desert west of the Andean Mountains in South America is renowned for its aridity. Some locations have never seen rain in over four hundred years. The only source of moisture that allows life to flourish in this hostile environment is the thick moisture laden mist that is daily swept in from the Pacific Ocean and which the highly adaptable flora and fauna absorbs into their system. So, it was great news when it was announced that scientists have devised a means of capturing the mist and condensing it into water for the use of the local inhabitants. This was pure genius.

One characteristic that separate man from God’s other creations is his ingenuity and proven ability to adapt to his environment in the desire to flourish. This of course is the consequence of God breathing and thus imparting of Himself into the first man. We can therefore affirm that human demonstrable ingenuity owes its very existence to God’s genius. In essence, God made us who we are. Nevertheless, there is a clear difference between God’s genius and human ingenuity in the sense that God’s genius is original while human ingenuity is derived. This fact is demonstrated by the fact that God can create something tangible essentially out of nothing while human beings can only discover or make things by seeking to understand the principles by which God’s creation works. God provides the substrate for man to manipulate. For example, four centuries ago, the renowned scientist Isaac Newton discovered gravity and the laws guiding it, but it was God who originally created gravity. It required human ingenuity to discover gravity, but it took a far greater genius to create it. Isa 55:8-9 states that the difference between these two levels of genius in its pure form is comparable to the unbridgeable gulf that exists between heaven and earth. The gulf is even greater when it is compared with that of a corrupted genius who has been perverted by the devil.

In a world still debating the ethics of cloning, Christmas is a constant reminder of the fact that God created something out of nothing and in defiance of natural laws. While God often chooses to cooperate in His working with natural laws, He is nonetheless not subject to them and would consequently suspend such laws when they militate against His plan in order that His will might be done. Christmas is proof that once God has spoken, nothing can stop its fulfilment. So, if human genius has so far failed you, understand that there is a higher genius that you can appeal to and who will fulfil His promise whatever the natural obstacles you might be facing. That genius became flesh and lived amongst us in the person of Jesus Christ. He will give anything that you ask in His name. So, on this the occasion of celebrating His birthday, won’t it be nice if you were to ask for a birthday present from a God who is eager to bestow His blessings on His people. By doing this, you are not only making His day, but are also getting blessed in the process. I pray that you and yours enjoy a Merry Christmas and a prosperously Happy New Year. God’s genius will ensure this.

Prayer:
Father, the entrance of your word causes the light bulbs to be turned on in our spirit and makes us wiser. Lord, give me a birthday present – a new revelation of yourself today so that my relationship with you can be taken to the next level. This I ask for in Jesus name. Amen
