“Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will release you from captivity and gather you from all the nations and all the places to which I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I caused you to be carried away captive.” Jer 29:12-13 (Amplified)
To qualify to speak for God or speak His will into your situation requires building an authentic relationship with Him. This is because God’s Spirit will not give kudos to the words of a stranger as He is characteristically always deaf to the commands of strangers who usually speak strange words. So, if you want to speak life to a decaying situation, it requires you to first connect with the only source of life – God, failing which nothing will reverse or resolve your difficult situation. You have to first seek and find God, not just in the context of salvation, but also in the context of relating with Him in your day to day life and herein lies the challenge.
Many of us have no difficulty praying to God to ask things of Him. Nevertheless, this kind of prayer requires the minimum of effort or commitment to build a relationship with God as it means relating with God at arms length. The kind of praying that will elicit the destiny-changing and life-infusing action of the Holy Spirit in our lives necessarily require us to seek God. This means that we have to get up close and personal to and thus become intimate with God. It requires us to become less of a stranger and more of a friend to God. While it is very true that God is no respecter of persons, we also need to understand that His word also says that whatever a man sows, that shall he reap. If you can’t be bothered to spend time in order to get to know His heart, you certainly won’t qualify to speak for Him. If your contention is that He spoke through a donkey, be advised that He only did that once. So, if you desire for God to speak consistently through you, then you definitely must get to know Him by spending quality time in His word and seeking His will in prayer. You need to bond with Him and build mutual trust and the only way that that would ever happen is by seeking His face and relating with Him.
The inevitability of God’s move in our time is an incontrovertible truth that is borne out by Scriptures. Nevertheless, God’s Spirit will not just alight on any Dick and Harry. He will only operate through committed and unrepentant seekers, that is, those who have consistently sought and continue to seek and do their utmost to find Him. This is primarily because God is characteristically seeker-sensitive. He has a soft spot for and is consequently always accessible to those who are determined to seek and find Him. This means that in seeking Him, your heart has to be in it and you have to be prepared to stop at nothing until you achieve a breakthrough. It is an all-or-nothing venture. Therefore, take steps today to connect with God and soon you will not just be speaking to Him, but also speaking for Him. This is the only way to positively impact and change your world for God.
Prayer:
Lord, your word says in Phil 2:13 that you are the one who works in me both to will and do of your good pleasure. I ask you to work and create a deep hunger for you in my spirit that will drive me to seek you and not relent until I find you. Take me up one notch from just asking to wholeheartedly seeking you so that your life can indeed impact me and through me impact my world in Jesus’ name. Amen.
