“To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven.” Eccl 3:1 (Amplified)

God forbid, but if you were to hear that your house is on fire, how will you respond? You will saunter to the kitchen and make yourself a cup of tea, I think not. You will go into your safe and grab whatever valuables you can lay your hands upon; maybe. You will gather your family, if there is time, and run out in whatever state of undress you are; more likely. Why would you respond in haste to such a warning? Well, it is because such a situation is a matter of life and death and your motivation is driven by the sense of urgency that such dangerous situations demand.

Well, for the people whose stories we will be considering, their houses might not have been on fire. However, they knew where they were hurting and recognised that they had a once in a lifetime opportunity to have God bless them and were determined not to miss out. They realised that Jesus would probably not pass their way again, so their sense of urgency was demonstrated by the desperate measures they resorted to in order to attract Jesus’ attention despite the improbable odds stacked against them. The reason why many of us struggle to receive God’s touch in our lives is because we subconsciously believe we will always have another opportunity. Hence we fail to develop the three important attributes – desperation, determination and dependency required to galvanise our faith into action and enable us to lay hold on our objectives. These people we will be considering exemplified a now or never mentality, with more emphasis on the former, because they were convinced that their salvation was in Jesus Christ alone. Therefore, they would not be denied, distracted or detracted from their faith objective of attracting Jesus attention and receiving His touch.

Whatever their situation and however desperate they were, they were not lacking in the currency of heaven. In fact, where faith is concerned, they were the equivalent of millionaires. It is therefore understandable that they were men and women of spiritual stature, whose faith cry could not be ignored by the God whose ear is ever attentive to the call of faith. Through their faith initiatives, Jesus perceived opportunities through which He could bring glory to the Father; hence they proved irresistible to a God who is always eager to demonstrate His power and prove His worth to a world in need.

So, what can we learn from the lives of these victorious people. It is the fact that this is your moment. Now and not later is your window of opportunity to experience God the way you never have. Today and not tomorrow is your day of salvation. You have to seize this particular moment and reach out to God in faith or the time might pass you by and you might have to wait a long while before another opportunity comes along. To do this, you need to develop a sense of urgency and a determination to refuse to be deterred by whatever obstacles you might have to face and overcome. Then you have to apply yourself like there is no tomorrow, because there just might be no tomorrow if you fail, and once you’ve touched Him, His life will be the guarantee that you shall indeed not die, but live to declare His glory.

Prayer:
Lord, you have promised that those who seek you with all of their heart will find you. I reach out in faith to you today. Cause you life to impact and transform my situation so that your name will be glorified through me in Jesus name. Amen.
